Wizz Air continues to expand in Bratislava, new routes to the Caucasus

The Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air is convinced that there are still not enough new routes announced to be opened from Bratislava so far.

First, it is worth remembering where Wizz Air currently flies from Bratislava: Skopje, London (Luton), Bucharest, Barcelona, Lamezia Terme, Plovdiv, Varna, Málaga and Košice. Nine destinations.

It has now started selling tickets from Bratislava to Kutaisi in Georgia and Yerevan in Armenia. It will fly to Yerevan twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, from January 13, 2026. To Kutaisi from January 12, 2026, 3 times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Next year in April, Wizz Air is to fly from Bratislava to 29 destinations. These are Alicante, Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Bucharest, Dortmund, EuroAirport, Yerevan, Chisinau, Košice, Kutaisi, Larnaca, London (Luton), Lamezia Terme, Málaga, Naples, Niš, Oslo (Gardermoen), Ohrid, Plovdiv, Palermo, Pristina, Rome (Fiumicino), Skopje, Tirana, Tel Aviv, Tuzla, Varna and Warsaw.

The new routes will be opened gradually. Below is the schedule, which always includes the destination name and date of the inaugural Wizz Air flight:

• December 2025: Alicante (15.12.), Athens (15.12.), Oslo (Gardermoen, 15.12.), EuroAirport (16.12.), Naples (16.12.), Niš (16.12.), Palermo (16.12.),

• January 2026: Larnaca (12.1.), Chisinau (12.1.), Kutaisi (12.1.), Yerevan (13.1.)

The Hungarian carrier announced its intention to establish a base with two Airbus A320 aircraft at Bratislava Airport in the summer. In the autumn, it increased the intended number of based aircraft to four. At the same time, it won the tender for the operation of the domestic route Bratislava - Košice and Slovakia has become popular. One of the factors is the complete absence of a tax on airline tickets, which in its neighbors in Austria amounts to approximately 300 crowns per passenger. The air traffic control fees have also been cut by 50%.

M. R. Štefánik Airport was used by 1,948,008 passengers in 2024. Compared to 2023, this is an increase of 7%. However, this is still less than in the record year 2018, when Bratislava handled 2,292,712 passengers.
