Negotiations about the Prague – Bangkok Route

Discussions regarding the reinstatement of the direct regular service between Prague and Bangkok are well underway. On Monday, March 25, the Czech Minister of Finance ZbynÄ›k Stanjura and Jiří Pos, CEO at Prague Airport, presented the route's potential and the marketing support from the government to representatives of Thai Airways and Thai AirAsia X. The Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic relayed this information via the X social network. "Now, representatives from Prague Airport will engage in negotiations regarding the cooperation details, aiming to encourage carriers to commence the direct air route as soon as possible," added the ministry in a subsequent tweet.

The latter mentioned carrier recently announced the introduction of a direct route from Bangkok to Budapest. Aircraft of the same carrier have previously landed at Prague Airport. In the spring of 2020, an Airbus A330neo operated by Thai AirAsia X facilitated repatriation flights from Bangkok in response to the pandemic onset.

Discussions about the direct route from Bangkok have been ongoing for many years. In January 2019, during a state visit to Thailand, then Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej BabiÅ¡, met with the leadership of the Thai branch of Air Asia. This resulted in tweets mentioning the anticipated opening of a daily route between Bangkok and Prague later that year. The Prague – Bangkok route was also a topic of discussion in March 2018, when the then CEO of Prague Airport, Václav ŘehoÅ™, mentioned it in an interview for Czech TV.
