Starting from October, it will be possible to travel from Prague to the capital of Vietnam without transfer. The Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJetAir will start flying to Prague Airport. Its long-haul Airbus A330-300s will land at Ruzyne on a regular route from Hanoi via Almaty. The carrier is not selling tickets yet.
VietJetAir will operate the new route twice a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The route will initially operate with a stopover in the Kazakh city of Almaty, and passengers will also be able to purchase tickets for the Prague – Almaty section and back. According to the flight schedule, the plane will take off from Hanoi at 8:45 a.m. and, after a stopover in Almaty, will land on the runway of Prague Airport at 6:30 p.m. It will depart from Prague at 8:30 p.m. with another stopover in Almaty and arrival in Hanoi the following day at 4:45 p.m. Vietjet Air will deploy an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a total capacity of 377 passengers on the route.
VietJetAir is an established Asian carrier, the second largest in Vietnam. Its fleet consists exclusively of aircraft from the European manufacturer Airbus. Short and medium-haul routes are served by Airbus A320 series aircraft, while long-haul routes are provided by Airbus A330-300s. It has a total of eight in its fleet. In May 2025, the company also signed an order for 20 A330neo aircraft. These should provide the route to Prague in the future.
Prague will serve as the Vietnamese carrier's gateway to Europe. It will be its first European destination. The Czech Republic has needed a direct route to Vietnam since a long time. The Vietnamese are the 3rd largest foreign minority in the Czech Republic. Approximately 70,000 Vietnamese citizens live in the country.
Hanoi is a key hub for VietJetAir. The carrier's wide network will allow passengers to use over forty connecting connections throughout Asia.
A Czech-Vietnamese business forum was held in Prague last January, and on that occasion, the then Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala discussed with his Vietnamese counterpart a direct route to Hanoi. Vietnam Airlines was interested in operating the route at the time. Fiala called the establishment of a direct flight between the two countries a priority. Prague Airport also joined the negotiations, as spokeswoman Denisa Hejtmánková told Hospodářské noviny at the time. "We had the opportunity to meet with the top management of Vietnam Airlines. We presented the carrier with a broad program to support the opening of a new route, specifically to Hanoi, which, according to the current outlook, has the potential to carry up to 35,000 passengers per year," said Hejtmánková, adding that Vietnam Airlines was to discuss the offer at the company's headquarters.
During the winter flight schedule 2026/2027, charter flights from Prague to Vietnam will also be operated by TUI Airways to Phu Quoc Airport, for the travel agencies Exim Tours and Fischer from the DER Touristik group.
