This year marks 20 years since I took my first photo of an IL-86 here with a compact camera. The planes change, but the magic of this place still remains for me and I love coming back here.
Lithuanian Museum of Aviation, The helicopter on display belonged to the Lithuanian Air Force. During a military exercise on March 26, 2003, it fell into the Baltic Sea near Nemirseta and sank. Four of the six crew members were rescued.
This aircraft returned to its original home base after five years the next day after being commissioned with Mahan Air. It originally flew from 1996 to 2019 with Turkish Airlines as TC-JDM. Then it was shut down in JNB to be moved to Iran via two fictitious registrars. It flew here for the first time on 19.3.2024.
