After a remarkable drop in April’s traffic results caused by the airspace closure in most of Europe due to the volcanic eruption, May reported a rebound in passenger demand, although at a slower pace than in the first quarter of 2010. With 1 006 893 passengers, the volume of passengers handled at Prague Airport increased by 1,9 % year-on-year. The total number of aircraft movements amounted to 13 934, representing a decrease by 2,6 %. Cargo tonnage reached a robust growth by 51,7 % over the same month of the previous year. The increase in passenger numbers was mainly driven by full service carriers that experienced a growth by 4,5 %, whereas the low cost segment was down by 2,5 % and charter traffic declined by 6,5%. Volume of passengers transferring at Prague Airport saw a favourable increase by 7,3 % compared with the same period a year ago. The highest number of passengers travelled in May 2010 on routes between Prague and the UK, followed by Germany and France. Paris Charles de Gaulle remained the most frequented route before Moscow Sheremetyevo and Frankfurt.
