On Saturday, March 16, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft operated by Smartwings, registered OK-SWB, touched down on Easter Island. This marked one of the ten destinations to be visited by the 64 participants of the around-the-world tour spanning 26 days. The itinerary also includes stops in Aruba, Brazil, Chile, French Polynesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Macao, Hong Kong, and India.
The inaugural Journey Around the World took place in 2012 and has since become a staple event every spring. In 2020, passengers were slated to travel aboard an Airbus A340 chartered from Air X Charter, only to have their plans dashed by the onset of the pandemic. Last year saw the travel agency revert to its original carrier. Notably, the 2024 edition is the first to utilize the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Ahead of each Journey Around the World, Smartwings customizes its Boeing aircraft to enhance passenger comfort. Last year, a brand-new seating configuration has been unveiled.
