Built for BOAC at Filton in 1957 and originally to have been Srs 300LR G-AOFF. Sold to British Eagle in March 1964 and Monarch in January 1970 but quickly passed to Donaldson then IAS. To Invicta 04/1976. Leased as 9Q-CAZ in 01/81 but wfu at Manston 06/81. Ferried to Southend and then to Cosford for preservation in May 1984 as part of the BA Collection. Restored to BOAC colours, later painted in fake RAF colours.
N2980 is the only surviving Brooklands-built Wellington. During a training flight on the 31st December 1940 she developed engine trouble and ditched into Loch Ness. All the crew escaped, but the rear gunner was killed when his parachute failed to deploy.
Originally with Singapore Airlines, flies for Jordan Aviation from 2003. Leased by Slovak Airlines for flights Birmingham-Armitsar in 2005. Photo taken shortly before sunset in front of peaks of Himalaya.
