On Saturday, May 23, a Boeing 737-800, registration TC-SOG (production number 61179, year of manufacture 2017), of SunExpress, made a ceremonial landing at Ostrava Airport at 2:02 p.m, arriving from Antalya, Turkey. The Turkish airline has included Leoš Janáček Airport on its map of regular destinations for the first time. The new Ostrava – Antalya route will operate twice a week, flying every Wednesday and Saturday.
The new route offers passengers a great alternative to Smartwings, which flies to Antalya four times a week, if we count only those flights for which it is possible to buy tickets on the airline's website. Should we also include charter flights for travel agencies, the number of flights of the Czech airline would be significantly higher.
SunExpress commercial flights are returning to Ostrava after 26 years. Charter flights of the Turkish carrier have been landing at Ostrava airport since 2000. And SunExpress aircraft themselves have been at home in Ostrava for the past few years. The carrier cooperates with the local paint shop International Aerospace Coatings, where Turkish aircraft are given a new coat.
